Most conventional cotton is grown with heavy use of pesticides and synthetic fertilizers, which can harm soil, water, and nearby wildlife. It often consumes a lot of water, contributing to resource stress in some regions.

Certified organic cotton (🌿) is grown without synthetic chemicals, using natural methods to maintain soil fertility and biodiversity. Uses less water on average and avoids harmful pesticide runoff. Look for certifications like GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) or OEKO-TEX for assurance.

Polyester makes fabrics stronger, longer-lasting, and less likely to rip. But—when washed, it can shed tiny microplastics into the water system, which eventually make their way into fish, oceans, and...yes...even into a lobster poutine. (Seriously, they put everything in poutine these days.)

Recycled polyester (♻️) is preferable since it reuses existing plastic instead of pumping out new stuff. And you can fight microplastic pollution with tools like the GUPPYFRIEND bag, which catches microplastic fibres in the wash.
